DripplesDripples (drops n' ripples) attempts to invite a relook at our current definitions, at what we know and don't know, of our selves, at health and of life itself, and perhaps have a perspective that is new.

Sahanaa vavathu
Sahanau bhunakthu Sahaviiryam kara vaavahai Tejas vinau adhii tham astu Maa vidvishaa vahai Thanks to the English influence on India, my introduction to Sanskrit is through the English translation of the Upanishads in a concise format of some parts of it by Valerie J. Roebuck (Translation and Introduction to The Upanishads by Penguin Books). Pondering on my sketchy understanding of the kind teaching of her interpretation of the Upanishads, knowing very well that translations are interpretations and that 'truth has many versions but every version of the truth is a version of the truth,' I started putting the puzzle pieces together on what the Upanishads are trying to say even if in an English translation. Swami Vivekananda had recommended reading the Upanishads in one of his booklets as the backbone of Indian spirituality, so I went looking for a book that would make sense to me this ancient text written in a language I was not taught in school. Several back-and-forth slice and dice later, I thought I was getting Jack Sparrow'd with all the different bits of information as things started making sense to me corroborated by thought-vectors from several philosophical quarters but what I was finding as the meaning of the mantras is not how people seem to be making sense of them. I wondered if I was referring to the same language referred to as Sanskrit. I think my sanskritic logic is more Vedic than sanskritic. Nevertheless, it is fascinating. So, here goes my understanding of the mantra for learning. Sahanaa vavathu Tolerance (a lot of it) vaporises the subject matter {like water when vapourised has more spaces between molecules so one can see the components better} Sahanau bhunakthu Traveling on the boat/carrier {bridge formed between as stable ground} formed from tolerance makes {the subject content} effulgent {glowy from being seen in a light that contrasts it from other content so the matter is clearer} Sahaviiryam kara vaavahai Tolerance coupled with effort originates or causes a light to emerge {from the contemplation that shows the topic the way it needs to be seen} Tejas vinau adhii tham astu {Then} without the glowyness or shininess when contemplated {long enough on the now seen perspective, unhindered by hitherto thoughts about it} ripens the wit and strengthens Maa vidvishaa vahai {My} intelligence discerns poisonous or violated {deviated from implicate order} content and separates it {as rice from chaff so essence remains} Learning, as you can see, is an alchemical process where crude raw content gets digested in the stomach of the brain until intellect becomes intelligent. Howzzat? Nirbeeja Yoga's vishachikitsa and shuddhikaran happens along the lines of the understanding of this mantra. We use nothing to come to the essence of truth. Clearly, my method of learning has a role in the Founding of Nirbeeja Yoga®️🙂. Like said elsewhere about Nirbeeja Yoga, it is at least 1000+ step process by which to walk the path of peace and truth but a journey of a 1000 steps begins with the single step of registering for the Program, especially when there is no shortcut to any place worth going. Owing to the difference in the learning process involved with this method of yoga that is other than popular hatha yoga methodologies, the teaching is being developed through online Courses augmented by one-on-one discussions, unless of course a Student is committed enough to attend regular classes and follow the discipline required to learn the practice of this method of nonviolent living.

Look at the Rose and be mindful of the thorns. The Rose rose from the thorns and knows how to be beautiful and mindful amidst the thorns so both can be and do their individual functions. Similarly, a Lotus emerged from the brackish waters standing on its own stalk supported by the surface tension of the water, pristine in its own light. Look how the contrast has both, the Lotus and the brackish waters, be. Is the Rose or Lotus beautiful because of themselves or both because of and inspite of them?
The Rose may be an analogy for mindful living in the drylands or the West ontological cosmology and the Lotus may be an analogy for mindful living in the wetlands or the East ontological cosmology. Now the Reader must say which is East and which West; maybe they are directions in our intellectuoscape or psychoscape? |
